Rig Envy

Before we sold everything we owned, bought a trailer and set out as full-time travelers,  I used to spend a lot of my time pining over things I wanted on Craigslist.  HotRods. Boats. Cars.  There was always a new flavor of the week.  I am pretty sure my wife may have planned an intervention at some point. Yes, I was addicted to the next best thing.

We’re coming up on 6 months of having wheels under our home.  I would love to report that I meditate everyday and am at total peace with my fellow man and have eliminated my need for worldly possessions.  I could tell you this, yes. But, that would be bullshit.

I try to do Yoga as often as I can…but it never seems like the right time. I have totally mellowed out on my road rage, except when I got cut off and screamed “Fuck you ass face!” in front of my 9-year-old.  But at least no longer need physical possessions [*cough*bullshit]

What do I focus on these days? Well, the perfect rig of course. We spend our days roaming across the US from campground to campground.  We’re not retired. In fact I joke that I want to make a bumper sticker for our truck that reads “Not all who roam are retired.”  We get to meet all kinds of nice people and my favorite pastime is rating peoples “setups’.

Sure, on the weekends we get the warrior clans in their toy haulers that hang Christmas lights, large screen TV’s and elaborate patio furniture.  Those are a fun weekend treats that help us remember what day it is. The traveling full-timer typically sets-up and takes-down camp quite often… so their sites are usually a little more purpose built with maybe a couple chairs, gas fire pit and bbq.

We currently have a Ford truck towing a 28′ travel trailer.  It’s a comfy setup with 2 bedrooms which gives the family a little privacy and space.  However, if you’ve ever traveled in a Class A motorhome… especially a diesel pusher – the road is a different place.

This brings me back to my new obsession. How to trade what we currently have for a Class A diesel pusher and car we like (preferably AWD)  and keep about the same payments?  Well, I am still working on this… just thought I’d share.

But since you asked, this rig tickles my pickle. It’s under 35′ (so we can get into state parks), isn’t ridiculously priced (for what it is) and there is a used market for them. Watch the video. 🙂
